JEPM Update - Continuously Evolving!

The success of JEPM over the last two years reflects the incredible commitment of our SEA members to advancing educational research in perioperative medicine. Since going live on the Scholastica platform in September of 2016, we have a 47% overall manuscript acceptance rate with an average of 87 days to decision. These impressive stats represent the hard work of our talented editorial team, including Associate Editors Swapna Chaudhuri, MD, PhD; Timothy R. Long, MD (new member added this year); Annette Mizuguchi, MD, PhD, MMSc, FASE; Srijaya K. Reddy, MD, MBA; Deborah A. Schwengel, MD, Med; and Karen J. Souter, MB, BS, FRCA.

Our April-June 2018 issue featured , “Development of a Multiple-Choice Test for Novice Anesthesia Residents to Evaluate Knowledge Related to Management of General Anesthesia for Urgent Cesarean Delivery,” by Lee and colleagues (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6055537/). The addition of competency-based milestones in graduate medical education, has increased the value of reliable assessment tools to track trainee progress. This study describes the iterative development of a valid and reliable instrument to assess CA1's knowledge about delivering a general anesthetic for an urgent cesarean section.

We are excited to announce a new platform for online manuscript submission and peer-review. This change will provide better analytics and reviewer tracking, which facilitates the work of the editorial office. Our current copy editor, Allen Press, has a “PeerTrack” product which uses the Aries’ Editorial Manager that is currently used by several established journals in the industry. Aries was recently acquired by Elsevier, a move that promises to bring even more strength in information analytics to the product.
