Membership

About

Membership in SEA is open to all who share an interest in anesthesia education, and the Membership Committee's work is to make sure people know that and stay connected once they've joined. We monitor the growth and composition of the membership, work to keep members engaged throughout their careers, and look for ways to bring new educators into the Society. Membership continues to grow alongside our specialty's training capacity and educational mission.

Goals and Objectives

  • Welcome new members and support a straightforward, accessible path to joining.
  • Track and analyze membership trends to understand who is joining, renewing, and lapsing.
  • Retain current members and re-engage those whose membership has lapsed.
  • Expand the Society's visibility and reach among anesthesia educators.
  • Report to the Board of Directors twice yearly.

Work in Progress

The Committee is analyzing membership data — including academic position, educational role and expertise, subspecialty, professional title, and home department size — to better understand the composition of the Society and identify trends that can guide recruitment and retention.

The Committee is also building a visiting lecturer list to connect community-based programs with SEA members available to speak and teach, and is developing a plan for making that list accessible to programs that need it.

Finally, the Committee is pursuing partnerships with allied organizations in medical education to extend SEA's reach and introduce the Society to educators who would benefit from membership. A recent example is a collaboration with the ACCRAC podcast, which featured SEA in an episode released in July 2025.
