Brief Educational Biosketch:

I received my simulation education training in the Mount Sinai Hospital Human Emulation, Education, and Evaluation Lab for Patient Safety and Professional Study (HELPS) Center. I went on to join the Simulation team at the Ohio State University Wexner Hospital that created the first ASA endorsed center for MOCA simulation while also creating the most popular undergraduate medical education course offering (simulation-based instruction in cardiovascular and pulmonary physiology). In 2014 I became the core residency program director at the Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and West Hospitals. Our program has the distinction of being among the most diverse in the country. In 2017, I was awarded the Institute for Medical Education Excellence in Teaching Award. In 2019, I was named Vice Chair of Education.

What drew you to a career in anesthesiology education?

My mentor, Adam Levine, MD, trained me in simulation education as a medical student and resident.  During my anesthesiology graduate training, I was accepted to the clinician educator track, where I gained a great deal of experience in undergraduate and graduate medical education and residency administration. I have been drawn to education ever since.

What are a few facts about you people may not know?

In a past life I was a cartoonist and visual artist. In my spare time, I enjoy reading the works of German Idealist Philosophers such as Immanuel Kant and Friedrich Hegel.

What is your advice to an aspiring, young anesthesiologist educator?

Imitation is the highest form of flattery. Learn to teach from the best, use their ideas and build upon them. Also, if your students know that you are in their corner, you cannot go wrong as you grow into being the educator and mentor you aspire to be.
