Building a Better Bootcamp – Brainstorming Ways to Support the Transition of Interns to Competent CA-1s and Developing Their Professional Identity
- List programmatic differences in the clinical anesthesia transition period that exist among various residencies and discuss pros and cons of those differences.
- Identify institutional limitations during the clinical anesthesia transition and brainstorm strategies to navigate those barriers.
- Describe at least one area for improvement within the clinical anesthesia transition and create a strategy for enacting change in that area.
Communication in High Reliability Organizations: Implications for Professional Development and Intraoperative Patient Safety
- Understand how the hierarchy of medicine may compromise patient safety.
- Review examples across history and across fields outside of medicine to illustrate the advantages/disadvantages of hierarchy.
- Recognize how personal and systemic factors perpetuate a strict hierarchical structure.
- Describe strategies to establish an environment in which all members of the healthcare team may voice concerns/ thoughts/ observations.
- Summarize practical strategies for improving communication amongst team members of all ranks to promote patient safety.

- Know which situations are optimal for coaching vs. which situations are optimal for mentoring.
- Describe the characteristics of a great mentor/mentee relationship.
- Identify optimal involvement and roles to help a mentee be successful via a mentor/mentee contract.
Let’s Play! Fun Games to Learn Serious Skills for Impacting Team Dynamics
- Identify the importance of clear communication and healthy team dynamics in the healthcare setting
- Use games to practice communication skills with trainees
- Discuss the importance of interactive and fun teaching techniques and their impact on team dynamics
- Reflect on application of games in their own settings
Resident Remediation: How Can We Help Residents with Difficulties?
- Identify necessary aspects to remediation as seen in educational literature.
- Prepare a remediation plan for a resident struggling with medical knowledge and/or clinical decision making.
- Sufficiently document all necessary components of remediation with a struggling resident.
The Impact of Race and Racism on Professional Identity Formation
- Identify contributing factors to PIF related to race/ethnicity
- Outline strategies for educators to support PIF in URiM faculty/learners.
- Develop a toolkit to discuss PIF related to race/ethnicity
- Develop strategies in implementing systematic culture change to improve diversity and enhance PIF in URiM faculty/learners.

Working Together to Enhance Residency Training: The Program Director and Coordinator Team This workshop is designed for Program Directors and Program Coordinators to attend together as a team.
- Utilize their combined character strengths to work more efficiently as a team in promoting their mission, selecting improvement targets and in developing a specific action plan.
- Determine how best to work together to promote their mission/vision internally and externally, particularly with current and future learners.
- Identify a target program element for improvement (orientation, learner assessment, learning environment, etc.) through conduct of a mini needs assessment.
- Develop a plan of action for their team (PD and coordinator) for their selected "target" element.
